Volunteer Position

Position title: LIA Skillshare Representative

Location: Literacy in Action (5 rue Connolly, Sherbrooke)

Effective: October 2023 to April 2024 (flexible)

Hours: 3-4 hrs/week

Are you looking for a way to get involved in your community? Do you enjoy meeting and hosting people from all walks of life? Are you interested in developing skills in how to foster an accessible learning environment? Literacy in Action is seeking a volunteer to be our LIA representative for our Digital Literacy program on Saturday afternoons.

 

Literacy in Action is a volunteer-based non-for-profit organization serving English-speakers in the Estrie region. The Digital Literacy program supports adult learners who want to improve their skills and gain confidence with their phones, tablets, and computers. The LIA skillshare rep does not need to be an expert in every device, but acts as a moderator & host of the space while ensuring that protocols are being followed, everyone is comfortable and follow-up needs are noted.

Role & Responsibilities

• Supervise skillshare sessions 

• Set up, maintain & clean the space before and after each session as needed

• Offer coffee & tea to participants and do the dishes as needed

• Keep a log to track how things went & emerging questions

• Support tutors and learners during their session

• Follow up with the program coordinator on a regular basis

• Provide feedback to the program coordinator

• File participant agreements

• Participate in the Digital Literacy Skillshare Training

 

Requirements

​

• Available Saturday afternoons from 12:30 - 3:30 (Sessions are 1-3pm)

• Friendly and open disposition

• English-speaking adult

• Reliable transportation to Lennoxville

• Expertise in technology is an asset

• Interest in teaching is an asset
