Our Vision
To empower individuals in our community and maximize their potential in ways that benefit themselves and society at large.
Our Mission
To offer educational activities and services, primarily tailored to the needs of English speaking adults, but open to the whole community, with the aim of improving essential skills, whatever a person's situation or educational background.
Why do we do it?As the name suggests, essential skills are essential for individuals to function and thrive in society. The literacy level of a person is one of the key indicators of a person's socio-economic status, and vice-versa. Essential skills contribute to self-actualization and the overall health of a person, and of the community by extension.
|
Whom do we serve? Our primary mandate is to serve members of the English speaking community who are above 16 years old. Nevertheless, everyone is welcome to participate in our community-based activities. Some of our activities are family-friendly, to accommodate and support parents of young children. |
When are we open?...It depends on you! Our main office is open weekday mornings. However, many of our public activities occur on evenings or weekends, and individual tutoring sessions have flexible schedules depending on the needs of the learner. |
Where do we operate? We provide services across the Estrie region of Quebec's Eastern Townships, but our main office is located in Lennoxville, Sherbrooke. The main locations of our services this year are Lennoxville, Magog, Richmond, Stanstead, and Danville. |
How do we function?
We are a not-for-profit organizations, funded by the Ministère de l'éducation et l'enseignement supérieur sous le Programme d'action communautaire sur le terrain de l'éducation (PACTE) to promote adult literacy skill development in the English-speaking population of the Estrie region.
To maximize our reach and impact, our services are offered through partnerships with fellow community organizations including the Community Learning Centre (CLC) network, ValFamille, New Horizons, and others.
We are under the umbrella of Literacy Quebec, a network regrouping the 13 literacy organizations serving the anglophone population of the province.
